Brendan Reynolds

Brendan, who headed Moment's management team before becoming CEO, has played a key role in articulating Moment’s blueprint for growth since joining the company in 2003. His rich history with both design and management is integral to his mentorship of teams in the business impacts of design and product strategy. His expertise in designing engagements suits a wide range of business needs. Brendan has worked with diverse global clients in the financial services industry and has far-reaching experience with retail and institutional banking and investment products, trading platforms, and mid- and back-office financial systems.

Alexa joined Moment in 2007 and has been vital to growing the company’s design platform. With an arsenal of qualitative research methods and interface best practices, Alexa empowers teams to venture confidently into new conceptual territory. Her versatile methods have helped launch thriving products for Walt Disney, ESPN, TD Ameritrade, American Express, and other companies, and she brings a productive, playful attitude to each collaboration. In addition to design leadership on client engagements, Alexa directs Moment’s brand and marketing functions.

John has brought his expertise, enthusiasm, and passion for design to Moment’s culture and client engagements since 2003. Drawing on 20+ years of experience creating visionary, high-profile products, John’s leadership and belief that great design can drive business has contributed to far-reaching successes for ESPN, Turner, Tiffany & Co., Walt Disney, and many others. Beyond his client relationships, John leads business development and serves on Moment’s management team, questioning assumptions and driving dialogue to explore visionary ideas.

Philip is one of Moment’s founders, and continues to be a strong leader in developing the company’s design practices. His design sensibility is marked by pragmatism, thoughtfulness, and exquisite craftsmanship, setting high standards for quality across all client collaborations. Throughout his 20-year career, he’s shaped the design of several high-profile, award-winning products for Bloomberg, ESPN, and Tiffany & Co.

Shannon O'Brien

Since joining Moment in 2003, Shannon has consistently guided design teams toward purposeful ideation. Her keen ability to listen and respond to individuals while remaining mindful of the bigger picture has helped her tailor effective, lasting partnerships with key clients like American Express, Philips, and ESPN. In addition to building client relationships, Shannon leads Moment’s recruiting and people-first processes, which include our highly-regarded career management and mentorship programs, as well as volunteer and parental leave policies. Shannon has given presentations at Adaptive Path’s Managing Experience Conference, Money2020, as well as other local industry events.

John Payne

As one of Moment’s founders, John’s dedication to continuous learning and enriching lives through product design helped shape the early contours of the company. John has created a variety of groundbreaking digital and physical products in his 25+ years in the industry, taking inspiration from the ways artifacts have transformed cultures worldwide. He has taught graduate design and research courses at NYU and Parsons and chaired two influential industry conferences, EPIC 2012, a.k.a. the Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference, and Interaction 17 for the Interaction Design Association. John is currently a board member of Public Policy Lab (a non-profit devoted to the design of public services). His recent focus in consulting work has been to elevate healthcare user experience, collaborating with clients such as Allscripts, WellDoc, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Kaoru Kumatani

Ryan Hormberg

Ryan’s natural leadership capacity and lack of ego make him a trusted diplomatic partner and relationship builder. Thanks to stints in the insurance industry, experiential marketing, client-side financial services, and even the US Forest Service, he’s got a broad understanding of any business context or corporate environment. While at American Express, his focus on financial decision journeys, high-level brand strategy, integrated digital experiences, and data analytics served him in navigating the challenges facing businesses seeking new strategic directions. Ryan’s personal motto: “Leave it better than I found it,” speaks to his knack for earning trust and affecting big change.

Caroline Brown

Caroline has a talent for structuring and organizing data, and she loves teaching others new ways of problem solving through information modeling. Her teammates appreciate her calm, rational nature in the face of escalating project challenges. She is a former librarian with master’s degrees in library and information science as well as interactive telecommunications, and her work at Moment has included projects for American Express and Bloomberg.

Keoni Chun

Keoni is a designer who values empathy more than anything else, thanks to his background in social justice. His previous experience at the Amazon Echo studio in Seattle serves as the perfect backdrop for his tireless enthusiasm for creating experiences that address and serve user needs. A versatile, fast learner and fearless presenter, Keoni is passionate about questioning, deconstructing, and reflecting on the systems that surround him.

As a designer, Michael enjoys working across brand and product teams to transform seemingly disconnected challenges into cohesive experiences that resonate with users in the long term. His time working at publicly traded companies during strategic transitions has given him first-hand knowledge in implementing the large-scale product, design, and brand shifts that drive competitive growth. Michael's foundational background in studio art has taught him to recognize life in questionable moments and to confront his perception of how one occupies space in the physical world. Some of his favorite artists are Gordon Matta-Clark, Anish Kapoor, and James Turrell.

Mikel puts his years of experience as a brand strategist to use when thinking big-picture about design. He often uses metaphors from dissimilar creative disciplines to steer the development of a project. For example, what is the right rhythm for the screens in an onboarding process? or, how can we make a user's journey feel like a complete narrative instead of an episodic fragment? Mikel’s range of creative interests—including music journalism and sound design—help him approach the design process from a perspective that questions motivations behind decisions across all media.

Sam's depth and breadth of experience during her years on the freelance market alongside diverse teams of UX designers, strategists, copywriters, and developers has turned her into an ideal “T-shaped” designer and consultant. Her drive to cut through the design noise that exists in today's world leads her to create beautiful, useful, and intuitive products. Most importantly though, Sam claims her strict attention to detail is largely attributable to an alleged past life as a furniture designer, not her sharp sense of the best results-delivering design processes. Regardless, it's earned her the nickname of “Hawk Eyes.”
